The historic village of Russell is an attractive seaside holiday destination in the heart of the Bay of Islands. Bay of Islands boat trips depart from Russell wharf, including sailing, cruises to the Hole in the Rock or Urapekapeka Island, swimming with dolphins or fishing. Passenger ferries run between Paihia and Russell on a regular basis. You can drive to Russell via the Opua vehicle ferry or via the scenic Old Russell Road off SH1 north or Whangarei.
