Nearby Matapouri Bay is a horseshoe of white sand looking out over the Pacific Ocean with a lovely view of the famous Poor Knights Islands and providing safe swimming for the family. Rock pools for swimming are at the eastern end of the beach – perhaps ask local people for directions. Coastal walks are nearby - take a scenic walk down to Whale Bay, another one of the best white sand beaches on the coast with Woolley's Bay and Sandy Bay neighbouring white sand beaches both very popular for board surfing.
